From birth up to their first birthday, your little one is classed as a baby or infant. From the end of their third month you should see your baby start to smile and become more expressive and communicative. They may be able to raise their head and chest when lying on their stomachs, grasp and shake hand toys and bring their hands to their mouths. This is a time when they start to babble and begin to copy some sounds.
By the end of 7 months you can see your baby really respond to people’s expressions and enjoy playing. They start to respond to their own name and can tell emotions by the tone of your voice. This is when you find that your baby can start sitting up with and then without the support of your hands.
By the time your little on is a year old they really start to show emotions and can appear a little shy or anxious with strangers and even cry when you leave. You’ll also start hearing their first words such as “dada” and “mama”. At this time they may be able to walk a few steps without support, or at least be able to pull themselves up to standing or crawl around.
